DESCRIPTION:The SHS Foundation is experiencing the same thing as many non-profit organizations; a lack of people willing to volunteer their time for community service. It simply isn’t a popular thing to do these days. \nOur Foundation board currently has seven members. Our bylaws say that we cannot conduct business with less than seven members. Three of our key board members are scheduled to rotate off the board in June of 2024. We are seriously looking for parents\, grandparents\, and other interested adults to serve on our board. \nOur board is an easy board to volunteer with as we have a paid Executive Director that assists us in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Foundation. The board members have 3 main tasks: set board policy\, oversee the finances\, and bring in revenue.  We only meet 9-10 times during a school year and we have one main fundraising event each year. \nOur main goal is to provide funds to support students in the Summerville Union High School District so that each student receives resources that will provide them with an excellent education that reaches beyond the standard main-stream student experience. The Foundation has provided close to 2.5 million dollars to enhance education at SUHSD since our beginning in 2003.  This year we will be celebrating twenty years working with the high school. It will be made of steel\, and will measure 24” x 24” x 18” high.  It will have a sealed rubber coating on the outside to protect it from moisture in the earth.  The ASB (Associated Student Body) officers and members have come forward to put together the stories and photos for the time capsule.  It will for sure have a yearbook from 2022. \nMichael Merrill and Gilbert Hammerbeck are in charge of finding just the right place on campus to bury the capsule. The capsule will be buried on Sunday\, September 18\, at 2:00 pm in a special ceremony. The public is invited to attend.  We will be serving Birthday Cake and refreshments right after the ceremony.  You won’t want to miss this very special occasion.  Twenty-eight years from now you may want to attend the opening of the capsule. It will be made of steel\, and will measure 24” x 24” x 18” high.  It will have a sealed rubber coating on the outside to protect it from moisture in the earth.  The ASB (Associated Student Body) officers and members have come forward to put together the stories and photos for the time capsule.  It will for sure have a yearbook from 2022. \nMichael Merrill and Gilbert Hammerbeck are in charge of finding just the right place on campus to bury the capsule. The capsule will be buried on Sunday\, September 18\, at 2:00 pm in a special ceremony. The public is invited to attend.  We will be serving Birthday Cake and refreshments right after the ceremony.  You won’t want to miss this very special occasion.  Twenty-eight years from now you may want to attend the opening of the capsule.
