Jesse Roberson, Class of 2013

Jesse Roberson looks back on his years at Summerville High School with deep gratitude for the friendships, teachers, and experiences that shaped him. He fondly recalls Spanish classes with Mrs. Dieste and Señora Banks, the curiosity inspired in Biology class while dissecting minks with Mrs. Mager, and the laughter of creating a legendary music video parody in Mr. Smith’s class. He recalls countless other moments that made his time at Summerville truly memorable. He values the academic challenges and opportunities at Summerville, which encouraged him to approach his studies with dedication and developed in him a love for learning.

In athletics, Jesse was fortunate to be part of teams that achieved success together, including a section championship in basketball. He earned multiple all-league honors and was named Basketball MVP his senior year- achievements he cherishes as reminders of the teamwork, perseverance, and camaraderie that defined his high school experience. He is especially grateful to his football coaches, Mr. Watson and Mr. Leveroos, who challenged and guided him, and to Mr.Wingo, whose golf match trips — and Mrs. Wingo’s homemade doughnuts — remain unforgettable.

Jesse is also deeply thankful for his incredible friends and his large, supportive family. Their encouragement, guidance, and steadfast belief in him provided a foundation that carried him through both the challenges and triumphs of high school and beyond.

After graduating in 2013, Jesse earned a degree in Biology from Azusa Pacific University and began an abbreviated career as a high school biology and math teacher. The experience deepened his respect for educators and the impact they have on young lives. He then pursued medicine, earning his MD from UC Davis School of Medicine, where he also met his wife, Sarah. Jesse is now completing a residency in Anesthesiology as well as a cardiothoracic fellowship at UC San Diego.

Today, Jesse and Sarah are grateful for the joy of welcoming their first child, Levi, who at six months old has already brought immeasurable happiness to their lives. Jesse is honored and humbled to be included in the Summerville High School Hall of Fame. He remains deeply thankful for the teachers, coaches, friends, and family who laid the foundation for his journey and inspired him to become who he is today.”
