The Art & History clubs at Summerville High School recently received a Bear Grant for travel expenses to the Legion of Honor. Sean Patey the teacher/advisor for student clubs in Art and Art History took 50 students and parent chaperones to San Francisco to visit Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor and see an Art exhibit with an emphasis on Art History. The Foundation Bear Grant for $500 helped with the transportation for the trip. The trip was actually made on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 with nearly 50 students, chaperones, and Sean Patey attending.
AP European History students were tasked with activities that would tie art history to relevant European historical events and movements. Art Club students would be able to gain further insight and explore masters of the art world with exhibits stretching to the late medieval age into the early 20th century. It is important that students draw connections between the art world and history as they go hand in hand in understanding world history. Sean mentioned that several of the students who attended this trip had never been out of Tuolumne County before.
This is just the type of activity the Foundation likes to fund for students as learning is almost instant and takes them into a whole new dimension in learning and perhaps an appreciation for art that will become a pastime in their adult life
