Poker Under the Stars Update

On behalf of the members of the Board of Directors of the Summerville High School Foundation, may I say we are so grateful for the 105 guests who came to support our Hall of Fame Awards Dinner and stayed for the entertainment afterward, which was a mix of a lively game of “Poker Under the Stars” and a riotous game of “Bingo on the Stage” at the Tuolumne Veteran’s Memorial Hall. It was, indeed, an event to remember in so many wonderful ways!

Congratulations to our Hall of Fame Honorees, from the left, Taylor Gold — Class of 2011, Hannah Low-Burries — Class of 1998, Dan Atkins — Class of 2003. Also, congratulation to Kristen Turner — Class of 2013, who was unable to attend.

We are grateful first to Tuolumne Park and Recreation staff, James Wood, and Jen Taylor for being able to rent us the room at the last minute when the outside version of “Poker Under the Stars” became impossible to stage at Eproson Park in Twain Harte due to incoming weather. We were very lucky to have found an inside venue at the Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall.

Other locals helped us put a shine on the event, too: Margott Weltin of Weltin Design created our fabulous poster plus found time to work at our event and capture these terrific photos; Wes White of White Noise Productions gave us STARS on the ceiling of Memorial Hall, music, and mood lighting; Devon Woodruff of Devon’s Delectables and her charming staff served up a delicious four-course meal cooked to perfection with cupcakes to die for! Many thanks to our Dealers from Chicken Ranch Casino and the wonderful Tournament Director, Nadia Solo, who whipped our Poker Games into a fun but often tense evening of lively gaming; we know we couldn’t have done that part without this skilled crew of five.

Nine winners went home with gift certificates from local businesses — a win for us, a win for the players, and a win for local businesses.

We heard rave reviews from our Bingo Players as they left the stage with prizes in hand. Betsy Hurst and Sioban Hill, the dynamic duo of bingo, gave out great prizes, jokes, and tricks for one and all. If noise is a measure of fun, the bingo games took the top prize for fun.

Our sponsors helped make the evening possible and have donated nearly $13,000 this year to help fund our Bear Grant program. We are looking forward to seeing some awesome Bear Grant applications in the coming months.

Congratulations to our Top Tier Winners, Kerry Worden, Anne Patel, and T.J. Keshishian, each went home with $500 in local gift cards and some serious bling bracelets.

In the end, our goal was to put on a well thoughtout, good-looking event that honored our four Hall of Fame Honorees and their family members, served delicious food, and provided an evening of pure fun for all our supporters. Everyone seemed to leave the event with a happy smiles on their faces!

Sincere thanks to each and every person who helped plan the event, give advice, and help stage and create this fantastic evening. We know that sometimes it takes a village. Our “Summerville Village” came through in a big way! And we are grateful.

Everyone who attended was a winner, as the event turned out to be just what we had planned for from the very beginning! Our students will be the ultimate winners through our Bear Grant Program.

Thank You Sponsors!
