
$2,700 Was awarded to FFA to assist with travel expenses to the State of California FFA Conference for twenty students. Students paid their own registration fees. The event happened in March of 2026.
$1,045 Awarded to the Mock Trial Team to attend the annual State Competition. These funds will pay the registration fees for eleven seasoned Mock Trial students to compete at the state level. Congratulations to the SHS team who were first in local competition!
$2,121.62 Instructor Tom Dibble requested funds to pay registrations, and fund meals for two days as twelve students seek their welding certifications within a special event hosted at Columbia College this spring. Further some funds will also help supply awards for the end-of-year incentive celebrations for all shop students.
$2,549.98 A Bear Grant application was submitted by the new art teacher, Lauren Labrouche for two dynamic art techniques using various art papers with varied colors and designs which will benefit all students enrolled in the art classes. *Funds for this project were given in an endowment from Patricia Gurney, a former arts and drama teacher.
$418.20 Rachel Talavera, the new Math teacher, requested six therapy stool style chairs for students with attention issues. These seats help maintain attention and focus for students that struggle with maintaining attention issues.
$569.80 Kelley Kerns, one of the Senior Class instructors has designed an event to keep Senior students engaged in attendance and learning during the last week of school. It’s called Kindergarten Day. Seniors must dress like they are kindergarten kids, and they have all kinds of activities and games that mimic the kindergarten experience.
$4,755.15 was provided for the tennis team to have new rackets, and various supplies for competition this year with a new coach, Chris Horner. Marsha Speck, an alumna of Summerville is a loyal and constant benefactor for all things “Tennis.”
A total of $14,160 through the Bear Grant Program was awarded in the 25/26 school year. More than $300K in grants have been awarded since 2009 when the program was started.
