Katie Tozier graduated in 2007.  She was one of those students that made every moment count at Summerville High School.

Katie was active in ASB as the President in 2006-2007.  Skilled in organizing, she worked on the 2005-2006 Homecoming celebration. She won the art contest to determine the design of the SHS district stationary.  She was a Girl Scout award recipient for the Gold Award which is the highest award in girl scouting. Her junior year she created a project which was a benefit for Eating Disorders for a fellow student that raised $40K.  If that wasn’t enough for someone so young she created a live-music presentation that was done weekly for the elderly in a local long-term care unit at the hospital.  To say that she made a difference in many people’s lives is a vast understatement.  Katie served as the “S” Club President for 2006, and 2007; a service club sponsored by Soroptimist International of Twain Harte.  Her senior project involved the Oral Histories Project and she wrote up 10 oral histories of local figures or couples here in Tuolumne County.  The final result was a printed compilation of their own oral histories and life stories of their time in Tuolumne County.

There are many more activities and honors that were accomplishments for this young lady.  We think one of her finest characteristics is the fact that she had a talent for lifting up other students and a strong sense of kindness and concern for every one she came in contact with during her years at Summerville.  Katie had/has a way of touching people in such a good way.

Katie excelled academically as well with a 4.3 GPA and she won the Seymour Award from the California Scholarship Federation in 2007. Moreover, she was a 4-year Rotary Gold Award Winner.

Sports captured Katie early on. She earned a 4-year varsity letter in both Volleyball and Softball.  MLL Co-Most Valuable Player for Varsity Volleyball in 2005 & 2006.  Also, MLL, Most Valuable Player in Varsity Softball for 2005.

Katie went on to achieve a BS in Environmental Science and Management in 2011 from UC Davis.  She went on to earn her Master’s Degree from Western Washington University in Environmental Education in 2013 and she augmented her education at the Northern Cascades Institute to earn a Certificate in Leadership & Non-Profit Management.

In an email I recently received from Katie and in her own words she is currently employed as “Assistant District Interpreter” at the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park. Park Ranger is also accurate and works perfectly fine .”

Katie has made her mark in the local community with her skilled volunteer capabilities. However, she recently took the Leadership Jackson Hole course which is a 9-month community leadership program.

Katie wrote that her objective in life would be to find a job that “combines my passion for the environment with my desire to build a stronger future through the gift of education.”  We can say, without a doubt, that she is a person who has found her way in the world today living her dream, her desires!
