Kevin Gold graduated with the class of 1978. He was born in Sonora on July 17, 1960 to parents Herman and Carmen Gold and he has lived in Tuolumne all of his life except for the time that he was awayat college. He is the 3rd of 6 children, with older brothers Rocky and Bob and younger brother and sisters Larry, Julie, and Janet, His entire family followed in the footsteps of their parents who graduated in 1946 and 1954.
With this built in history and following closely in the footsteps of 2 brothers, Kevin was ready to jump into high school and determined to be the most and the best that he could be. He planned from the very beginning to go on to college and he knew that his high school experience could be his springboard into maximizing his success.
One aspect of that involvement was in athletics. Leading up to high school he had participated in football, basketball, baseball, track and wrestling. He decided to go with football, basketball and track and he finished his high school career lettering all 4 years in each sport. However, his greatest triumphs were in track. One of his big memories is when coach DeGennaro took me to the Bay Area to compete in an octcathlon which has every decathlon event except for javelin and pole vaulting.
Another area of focus throughout all 4 years of high school was band. Kevin started out playing the French horn and then switched to trumpet for his last couple of years. He also served as band president for a couple of years and he was the drum major in his senior year.
The other organizations that Kevin participated in included AFS, CSF, Spanish Club, Block T and Student Council. He was also honored to represent SHS at Boys State and Camp Royale; both are well-known student leadership camps. He was on 1st honor roll all 16 quarters of school, finishing with a 3.93 GPA and Kevin was honored as Salutatorian of his class.
After graduation he was accepted to attend University of the Pacific in Stockton. He started out as a biology major with thoughts of med school but soon switched to the school of pharmacy and in May of 1983 he graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He has since worked as a pharmacist for almost 38 years, mostly for Longs/CVS. For 25 of those years he also served as the pastor at Tuolumne Community Baptist Church.
During his junior year of high school, he took a cute sophomore girl to the prom by the name of Kathy Flores. Although they went on a couple of dates at that time, it seemed that was the extent of things. Then a couple of years after he finished college, they renewed their romance and were married on August 2, 1886. They have a daughter Natalie, and 2 sons Adam and Michael. Now they are known as “Papa” and “Grammy” having been blessed with 5 grandchildren, Emelia, Colton, Ellis, Elan and Savannah.
