Tennis Team Heads to Sectional Playoffs in their New Warm-Ups

In their inaugural year, the Tennis Team achieved a note-worthy feat by qualifying for the Sectional Playoffs. This milestone was made even more special as they proudly donned their brand new warm-up attire, symbolizing their unity and dedication. With their skills honed and spirits high, they embraced the challenge, eager to make a lasting impression. The team’s journey from inception to playoffs showcased their determination, teamwork, and passion for the sport.

The tennis team was one of a very few teams at SHS without warm-ups. Marsha Speck, a SHS Alumna has donated a significant amount of funds to the tennis team since the courts were built in the early 2000’s. Kelly Bressel, the SHS Tennis coach says, “The warm-ups are wonderful! I had this idea of the first match: we’d take a nice photo with the entire varsity team. Can you believe we have been rained out of every single match, until today,( March 29th). We traveled to Bret Harte this afternoon and unfortunately had to stop half way due to the cold wind and rain.

Not only do the kids look great, but the timing is impeccable as this is the coldest season I can remember! (It’s snowing right now in Tuolumne as I type this!). We have not had more than 2 days out on the courts since Feb. 17th. It sounds depressing, but forcing us to go inside the gym(to practice on) the other 3 days allowed the coaches to fine tune some ground strokes and serves. We also have 54 athletes on our tennis roster (versus 30 last year)! It’s so many kids we had to break practices into 3 groups. Unbelievably crazy, wonderful chaos!”

Kelly is working with a couple of companies to get the best price/discounts for tennis rackets and they will be ordered in the near future.
