Being a part of the inaugural season of Summerville High’s Swim Team was truly a remarkable experience. After years of hoping and dreaming, the program finally became a reality, and the community showered the team with an overwhelming amount of love and support.
The turnout for the team was impressive, with 32 students from various backgrounds and abilities joining the roster. Witnessing them come together as a united team and achieve second place overall during the dual meet season and the Mother Lode League Championships was nothing short of amazing. Every meet showcased personal records and tremendous improvements, particularly during the Championships. The team comprises talented, motivated, and hardworking student athletes, indicating immense potential for continued success in the program.
Despite the challenges of navigating a new sport and an unprecedented “Spring” season, the team persevered, practicing in rain, snow, sleet, and wind. They consistently showed up and put in the work required. Swimming is a sport that reveals a person’s true character through its challenges. It demonstrates that hard work yields rewards. As coaches, it is incredibly gratifying to witness young athletes discovering this truth. Our swimmers exemplified this by consistently showing up and investing time and effort. We couldn’t be prouder of each individual and how they came together as a team.
Co-Coaches Lauren Gerber & Holly Harris take immense pride and gratitude in their roles within the new program. Swimming holds great significance for them, and they understand the advantages it brings to these kids, providing them with the opportunity to experience a wonderful and lifelong sport. These kids are now pursuing careers as swim instructors, coaches, and lifeguards, contributing positively to the community and representing Summerville in an admirable manner.
Swimming has always been an integral part of our foothill kids’ lives, growing up around cold lakes and rivers. It comes as no surprise that they excelled in this sport. They truly rocked it!
