It’s an honor to be selected as a member of the Summerville Hall of Fame. I have been blessed to give back to the Bear Family as a teacher and administrator for the past fourteen years. Most importantly, I met my amazing wife Amanda while at Summerville, so it has definitely been a great school for me! Some of my favorite memories from high school involve sports. I played four years of football and ended up at quarterback for a few seasons after they ran out of better options:) After Coach Suggs convinced me not to quit as a freshman I found I really enjoyed the sport. My junior year was the highlight. We had an amazing team and ended up playing in Summerville’s first ever section title game in Colfax. As much fun as it was playing on Friday nights, Basketball was my favorite sport and I played all four years.  I enjoyed starting alongside my good friends, Joe Sanders, Cody Munsel, Adam Artzer and Quint Gerber. We all started playing together at Summerville Elementary and finished our senior year as the starting 5. A few highlights include going 24-1 freshman year, watching Joe dunk in Bret Harte as freshman, hitting a buzzer beater against Amador, and being one shot away from Arco and a shot at the section title our senior year! I will always be grateful to Coach Watson for challenging me to step up and lead and Coach Heldstab for his sense of humor.

In the classroom I did my best to keep good grades and I ended up in the top 10 by graduation. Having teachers who challenged me and motivated me to do well in class opened the door for me to attend Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. I am grateful to Mr. Hohn for challenging me in Physics and keeping things entertaining. Mr. DeG helped me grow as a writer and I’m still thinking about “to be” verbs as I type this. Mr. Suggs, Mr. Shaw and Mr. Christensen gave me an appreciation for and interest in history and politics. During my senior year I decided to join ASB and was the class vice president. I was also convinced by a good friend as well as Mrs. Young to try out for Jazz@8 my senior year. I will say that my primary motivation was to go to Carnegie Hall and sing in New York, which they promised me would happen. I ended up joining the choir and found I really enjoyed singing. Plus, the trip to New York was s’wonderful:) I am very appreciated of the small and tight-knit community of Summerville Bears. God put me at Summerville for a reason and I hope that I have done my part to give back.
