Lauren Gerber-London, Class of 2001

I was born and raised in Tuolumne. I was a proud Summerville Elementary School Beaver, and followed in my Father’s footsteps as a proud Summerville High School Bear. My four years at Summerville High were full of growth, dedication, empowerment and fun. I entered as a shy freshman and finished as a self assured senior with enough confidence to speak in front of the entire student body as their Rally Commissioner. SHS helped me develop that confidence through my involvement in Arts, Academics and Athletics and I truly believe my involvement in all three of these fields gave me a well rounded experience that was the key to overall great enjoyment of my high school years.

I loved being an athlete. I was involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis and swimming. I was a three season athlete all four years and the dedication, sportsmanship, and eventually leadership I learned through sport surely contributed to my achievements in academics as well.

While sports and studies took up most of my time, my involvement in the music programs at SHS are some of my favorite memories of all. I sang in the Ladies First Choir & Jazz @ 8 Choir and had the most wonderful experiences traveling to competitions, singing at functions through the holiday seasons, and belting out the National Anthem at home football games. Just like in sports, we were a dedicated team and a musical family.

Looking back, I know my time at Summerville High School was special. My memory of the teaching and administrative staff is that there was always support, knowledge and extra effort when help or advice was sought. Teachers and coaches encouraged and inspired me and I went on to get a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo.

I have worked in Physical Therapy, Coaching & Aquatics Management ever since and would not have the happy, healthy and successful life I lead today without the foundation I gained at Summerville High School.
